Taking The Main Line To The Big Ten — Small-School Football Star Selects Northwestern For College Destination

Ferocious and agile Lawton junior defensive lineman Mason Mayne committed to Northwestern this week. His excellent grades and gridiron accolades made him one of the most coveted student athletes in the MHSAA’s Class of 2025. Mayne visited NW’s beautiful Evanston, Illinois last weekend and might be the state of Michigan’s best small-school DI college pigskin prospect. The Wildcats delivered him his first Big Ten bid back in March.
The 6-foot-4, 280-pound top-notch tackle is an elite run plugger with great footwork and a relentless motor. He also had offers from Yale, Penn, Cornell, Air Force, Army and Toledo.  Last month, he visited Michigan State. Despite an injury-shortened junior campaign on the football field in ’23, Mayne still managed to corral himself 36 tackles and 3 sacks. As a sophomore, Mayne’s Blue Devils team brought home a Division 7 district title.
