Coopersville offensive lineman Gabe VanSickle didn’t wait long to become a Buckeye. Days after de-committing from Northwestern earlier this week, the 3-star terror in the trenches committing to THE Ohio State University.
VanSickle (6-5, 285) visited Ohio State twice in the last month. He was on the sidelines, when OSU squared off against Penn State on October 21. The Buckeyes offered the versatile, hard-working VanSickle on November 7. Indiana is the only other Big Ten program in the mix right now. His Coopersville club finished 8-3 this fall, losing in the D3 district championship.
Since Pat Fitzgerald lost his job at the helm of the Northwestern program last summer following a hazing scandal, the Wildcats have lost a steady trickle of prior MHSAA commits, including safety Ty Hudkins (Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central), offensive lineman Idrys Cotton (Plymouth) and cornerback Jamir Benjamin (West Bloomfield). Hudkins is currently committed to Purdue and Benjamin is headed to UCLA.
