The future in Sault Saint Marie just like a whole lot brighter and the Lake Show just got a whole lot more special in the men’s basketball program. “Special K” from the Pointes is on his way to the UP next year and is ready to do some serious damage.
Grosse Pointe South senior hoopster Karter Richards committed to Lake Superior State last week. This is a major diamond in the ruff here people.
The 6-foot-4 gunner and defensive stalwart will be one of the, if not, the top player in the MAC for the 2024 campaign. He played wide receiver on GPS’s MAC White championship football squad. As a junior on the basketball floor, Richards averaged 20 points per game on a Blue Devils club that won the district and knocked off Macomb Dakota in regionals before falling to defending state champ Warren De La Salle in the Sweet 16.
Lake State Superior State offered Richards following a visit in mid-October. “Special K” can do so much on both ends of the court he’s the quintessential sleeper recruit for the GLIAC. Richards is a master finisher in traffic and on the fast break, shoots the rock with deadeye marksmanship and defends with sticky tenacity on the perimeter.
