The best quarterback in Macomb County is bucking the family trend and staying local for his college football.
Chippewa Valley senior field general Andrew Schuster committed to Grand Valley State University last week on the eve of camp opening for the 2023 season, keeping the third Schuster boy in-state after his older brothers left the Mitten to accept scholarships in North Dakota and Pennsylvania respectively.
Division II power GVSU offered Schuster last month. Dayton and Indianapolis also sent offers in his direction. His big bros Tommy Schuster (North Dakota) and Ryan Schuster (Lafayette) ara both all-time Chippewa Valley great gunslingers, with Tommy taking the Big Reds to a 2018 state championship.
Last season, Andrew racked up 2,125 yards and 22 touchdowns through the air for a 7-3 Chip club. GVSU is now under the stewardship of former Wayne St. assistant coach Scott Wooster after Matt Mitchell left for an assistant job in the Big Ten at Wisconsin. Last fall, GVSU won the GLIAC before bowing in the DII quarterfinals with a 12-1 mark..
