FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
2024 XENITH PREP KICKOFF CLASSIC MATCHUPS ANNOUNCED
SEASON-OPENING SHOWCASE TO FEATURE TOP TEAMS FROM MICHIGAN AND OHIO
DETROIT (May 2, 2024) – The Detroit Sports Commission (DSC) announced today the matchups for the 19th Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic (XPKC) will take place Aug. 29-30, 2024 at Tom Adams Field on the campus of Wayne State University.
The event returns after seeing record-breaking attendance in 2023 with over 14,700 fans. The 2024 XPKC marks 12 years of playing the event at Wayne State University’s Tom Adams Field in Midtown Detroit, following the event’s early years at Eastern Michigan University’s Rynearson Stadium.
Founded and organized annually by the Detroit Sports Commission (DSC), XPKC is the premier season-opening high school football showcase in Michigan. Since 2005, the event has focused on providing a “bowl game” atmosphere for participating teams, school bands, and cheer squads from across the Midwest.
Since the event’s inception, DSC has focused on an inclusive approach to team and match-up selection by inviting more than 90 schools from Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio to play in the signature event.
“The Detroit Sports Commission is proud to once again kick off the high school football season in Michigan with an exciting lineup of games in the city of Detroit,” said Marty Dobek, Detroit Sports Commission Deputy Director. “This year’s event will feature a tremendous collection of prep football programs, and also the colorful pageantry of school bands and cheerleaders for fans to experience at this signature event in Detroit.”
The 2024 event will transpire over two days this year and feature four games. XPKC will open at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, with the event opener between Southgate Anderson and Trenton at 4 p.m. followed by Warren De La Salle vs. Davison at 7 p.m. On Friday, Aug. 30, game one will feature Belleville taking on Clarkston at 4 p.m. and Detroit King vs. visiting Cleveland Heights in the nightcap at 7 p.m.
Tickets are $12 and are available for purchase at detroitsports.org/pkctickets. A portion of the proceeds from tickets will benefit each school. One ticket will grant admission to all games on that particular day.
