Detroit Cass Tech safety Derrick Jackson committed to Kent State over the weekend following a visit to its Ohio campus. The epitome of a student athlete, Jackson (6-1, 180) shunned the Ivy League for staying in the Midwest and playing his college pigskin in the MAC. Harvard, Yale and Princeton were all in hot pursuit of Jackson’s services out of the secondary. Louisville and a slew of other MAC programs offered scholarships as well,
Saginaw Heritage offensive lineman Ethan Kraatz committed to Bowling Green last week. Kraatz (6-5, 285), equally impressive on the football field and in the classroom as a student, had a dozen college scholarships to choose from, including BGSU, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, Army, Navy, Harvard and Dartmouth. He’s considered a 3-star prospect in the trenches and is slated at the left tackle position when he hits the BGSU campus next year. Last season, his Heritage squad went 9-2 and captured a D2 district championship.
Plymouth offensive lineman Luke Barnes committed to Miami (OH) earlier this spring. Barnes (6-7, 285) picked Miami (OH) over bids from Louisville, Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Central Michigan. Scouts project Barnes to have NFL-caliber upside and praise his work ethic and high motor.
