The sun beats the wind after all.
West Bloomfield senior cornerback Jamir Benjamin committed to UCLA this week; he’ll be basking in the sun again instead of catching wind of Lake Michigan.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound sticky cover corner previously de-committing from Stanford and then Northwestern, respectively, following coaching changes at both programs in the offseason. UCLA came in with an offer last month right after Benjamin’s de-commitment from Northwestern in the wake of the Wildcats hazing scandal.
Benjamin visited the Westwood campus right before making his final decision. He’s the No. 1 player at his position in the MHSAA’s Class of 2024. Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Maryland, Iowa, Purdue, Georgia Tech, Duke, Louisville, Missouri and Nebraska were all in the hunt for his services.
Another note on NW hazing scandal fallout in terms of area recruiting;
Dearborn Divine Child grad Dylan Senda had early enrolled at Northwestern in the winter and recently transferred to Auburn. Senda (6-5, 275) was the third-highest ranked offensive lineman in the MHSAA’s Class of ’23, behind Clarkston’s Cole Dellinger (Michigan State) and West Bloomfield’s Amir Herring (Michigan).
