The criteria that will be used to select the Mr. Football Award:

Throughout the season, we will be updating player statistics and adding new candidates into the contest as their actual play and performance merits, with a goal of keeping the ten best players on the board. In late-November we will close online voting and select our final four candidates. The final award selection and presentation will take place after the Football Finals with all of our friends at Hungry Howie’s!

Bryce Underwood
(Belleville 6-3, 205 QB Sr.)
Committed to Michigan, Underwood is already one of the MHSAA's GOATs at the quarterback position and is hoping to cement his shiny legacy with a third state crown for the Tigers before leaving for Baton Rouge in the winter. Last season, he threw for 3,331 yards and 41 touchdowns for the state runner-up in Division 1 and is the No. 1 prep field general in the U.S. right now.

Bryson Williams
(Orchard Lake St. Mary's 6-2, 195 WR Sr.)
Committed to Michigan State, Williams is a rangy, athletic and intelligent split end that beats opposing cornerbacks with his quicks, his smarts and timely playmaking. He is the Catholic League's No. 1 rated wide receiver entering the 2024 campaign, highlighting a St. Mary's lineup littered with DI college recruits from top to bottom grade-wise. Williams is one of three future MSU Spartans on the Eaglets '24 roster along with tight end Jayden Savoury and linebacker Charles "D.J." White.

Elliott Larner
(DeWitt 6-0, 185 QB Sr.)
Committed to Michigan Tech, Larner is a doozy of a dual-threat dynamo, wowing fans in the Lansing area with his arm and his feet. His No. 1 target in the pass game is his twin brother Abram, who is committed to Grand Valley State for his college pigskin. So far this season, Larner has stuffed the stat sheet for 674 yards passing and 955 yards rushing and a total of 23 touchdowns. In Week 4, he broke the DeWitt single-game rushing record with 279 yards and 5 scores on the ground.

Jaden Pydyn
(Det. Catholic Central 6-2, 200 Sr. RB/LB/S)
Committed to Army for football and baseball, Pydyn is a force of nature on both sides of the ball on the gridiron, imposing his will rushing the rock and relentlessly chasing down ball carriers. Last season, he played quarterback. This fall, he's the Shamrocks No. 1 option in the run game and led undefeated CC (9-0) to a Catholic League title. During the spring, he plays centerfield for the Catholic Central diamond-cutters and is being scouted for the 2025 MLB Draft.

Jace Clarizio
(East Lansing 6-0, 190 RB Sr.)
Committed to Michigan State, Clarizio wowed the crowds last fall by rushing for 1,255 yards and 16 touchdowns in a memorable '23 campaign for a Trojans squad that finished 10-3 and appeared in Division 2 state championship game. Look for him to be a real dark horse in the '24 Mr. Football race.

East Laning (9-4)

Season Stats: 1,677 yards rushing, 28 TDs
Cason Carswell
(Mason 6-4, 200 QB Sr.)
Committed to Western Illinois, Carswell led the Bulldogs to an undefeated regular season and into the Division 3 finals last year, passing for 2,810 yards and 32 touchdowns. He's one of the better two-sport athletes in the MHSAA and is an all-state selection on the basketball floor during the winter's sports calendar.

Mason (10-3)

Bryce Hurley
(Utica Eisenhower 5-11, 185 RB Sr.)
Switching from wide receiver to running back, Hurley is quickly becoming one of the most elusive ball carriers in Metro Detroit. Through just 3 games in his time as a workhorse in the backfield, he’s rushed for 402 yards and 4 touchdowns and caught another 2 scores on screen passes.

Eisenhower (8-3)

Desmond Straughton
(Roseville 6-2, 190 ATH Sr.)
Committed to Illinois, Straughton is a two-time All-MAC honoree and overall MVP for an increasingly talent-stacked Panthers' roster. The picture of consistency and craftiness on both sides of the ball, the future Big Ten defensive back should light up the stat sheet again in his senior season for maybe the most heralded Roseville football team ever.

Donovan Triplett
(Walled Lake Western 5-9, 175 Jr. RB)
Firmly establishing himself the most prolific and electric tailback hailing Metro Detroit's Westside suburbs, Triplett is a versatile workhorse in the mold of WLW alum, former Mr. Football candidate and current Big Ten-star Darius Taylor who has eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark two consecutive seasons now for the back-to-back LVC champion Warriors. Last year as a sophomore, he ran for 1,224 yards and 14 touchdowns. Triplett has been offered by Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan, Central Michigan, Toledo, Kent State and Bowling Green.

Walled Lake Western (11-1)

Jaden Pydyn

Justin Jones
(Howell 6-3, 200 Sr. RB)
The heartbeat of the Howell offense, Jones has rushed for 1,485 yards and 22 touchdowns so far this season, He's also caught 5 scores, leading the team with 356 yards receiving. On defense, Jones plays outside linebacker and has 42 tackles. Jones' last-second game-winning touchdown grab in Week 9 of the regular season propelled the Highlanders to a monumental 30-29 upset of nationally-ranked Belleville for a KLAA crown. Wayne State and Alma College are currently offering scholarships.

Howell (11-1)

Season Stats: 1,634 yards rushing, 26 TDs, 356 yards receiving and 5 TDs
A.J. Hill
(Davison 5-11, 175 RB Sr.)
Committed to Ferris State, Hill ran for 1,493 yards and 19 touchdowns in 2023 for a 12-1 Cardinals club that advanced into the Division 1 semifinals where they fell to then-defending state-champ Belleville. It's very possible Hill plays sleeper in the hunt for Mr. Football this fall because of his versatility and highlight-reel moves slicing through defenses in the Flint area.

Davison (7-2)

Elijah Dotson
(Belleville 6-2, 185 WR Sr.)
Committed to Pitt., Dotson transferred to Belleville in the offseason from U-D Jesuit, where he amassed 1,665 yards and scored 18 touchdowns as a junior in the CHSL. Considered a 4-star recruit, Dotson is currently projected to play safety when he reaches campus in the Steel City in 2025. He chose Pitt. over offers from Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Louisville, Illinois, Indiana and Kansas.

Kam Flowers
(West Bloomfield 6-0, 180 WR Sr.)
Committed to Toledo, Flowers is one of the most-touted prospects the Rockets have ever landed in the recruiting wars and is simply electric whether in space, showing off his elite speed, or going across the middle, showing off his toughness and reliability. Last year, he racked up 1,081 yards and 14 touchdowns from the line of scrimmage.

Carson Vis

Committed to Western Michigan for hoops — The top two sport athlete on the West Side of the state , Vis is a superstar signal caller on the gridiron and a stud wing guard on the basketball floor. Playing wide receiver as a sophomore, he won a Division 4 state title in 2022. Making the change to quarterback last season, he passed for 2,975 yards and 34 touchdowns and rushed for another 16 scores for a 10-4 squad that lost in the state finals.

GR South Christian 4-2

Dakota Guerrant
(Harper Woods 6-2, 170 WR Soph.)
The state's premier phenom pass catcher, Guerrant caught 43 balls for 1,091 yards and 14 touchdowns and helped lead the Pioneers to a Division 4 state title practically out of nowhere. Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Auburn, Tennessee, Penn State, Purdue, Indiana, Maryland, and Kentucky, among others.

Corey "C.J." Sadler
(Detroit Cass Tech 5-10, 175 ATH Jr.)
Probably the state's most dynamic overall playmaker, Sadler is a jack-of-all-trades and a master of all of them, too. No matter where he lines up on the field, whatever position or side of the ball, he possesses the rare ability to change the game in a split second with a single play. Last season, he spurred the Technicians to a second straight city title after a freshman year where he helped spark the team into the final four. Currently, Sadler boasts more than two dozen college scholarship offers from a parade of blue-blood programs like Michigan, Ohio State. Notre Dame, Alabama, LSU, Florida, UCLA, Penn State, Miami (FL), Tennessee and Wisconsin
