This past week Birmingham Detroit Country Day basketball star Edmond Sumner made some big news and then got some. To tip things off, Sumner, the Yellowjackets’ all-state junior point guard committed to Xavier, pulling the plug on his recruitment early. On Saturday, the smooth, smart and lanky 6-foot-4 floor general received some good news in terms of his Mr. Basketball candidacy when Warren De La Salle’s A.J. Turner, believed by some to be the frontrunner in the race for the 2014 hardware, announced he was transferring to a prep s...Full Story

The town of Livonia had a very special softball game this past Monday. They have all universally rallied around the fight agaisnt breast cancer, and both Churchill and Stevenson wore special uniforms for this game to show their support. As any under the light game is, this rivalry matchup was exciting. Churchill took home the win, though, and I got to kick it with Nicky Salloum, a senior who has big things ahead for her. Hey guys! This week on Kickin It With Cashman, I was at the OAA League Track Meet at Stoney Creek High School. There were many schools competing in this meet, but I was lucky enough to find two of the coolest runners there. Bri and Jaques both had some very special talents they were ready to show off, and trust me, they were not shy! These two were so much fun to kick it with, and I suggest everyone checks the video out. Until next time!  Full Story

WARREN – The gamble paid off. Big time. Warren De La Salle junior football star Jared Wangler rolled the dice last year when he decided to transfer from Royal Oak Shrine, the traditional Wangler family alma mater, with the intention of attracting wider college-recruiting interest. In a week where Wangler (6-foot-2, 225) saw a pair of Big 10 scholarship offers thrown his way, the outside linebacker committed to Penn State, the ultimate goal, accepting a full-ride to a Division I school, finally achieved. Wangler, who could wind up a sa...Full Story

Hey guys! Thanks for visiting our website to check out the second webisode of Kickin It with Cashman. This week, I was at the girls softball game at Livonia Ladywood, where they were playing a double header against Farmington Hills Mercy—a battle of two all-girls schools. While I was there, I heard a story about one Livonia player, Lauren Hayes. Lauren is only a junior, but shows HUGE promise…especially after her performance last year at the state finals. After hearing a little bit about what went down at that game, I knew ...Full Story

BEVERLY HILLS – On the heels of the University of Michigan snaring the commitment of All-American split end Drake Harris (Grand Rapids Christian), the Wolverines have landed a future running buddy for him at the wide receiver position in Birmingham Detroit Country Day’s Maurice Ways. Considered behind Harris one of the best wide outs in the state, Ways (6-foot-4, 195 pounds, 3-star prospect) committed to Michigan Thursday, choosing the Maize and Blue over 10 other offers, including ones from BCS schools Iowa, Pittsburgh, Kansas and...Full Story

The state of Ohio had a love affair with Michigan-bred linebackers this past week. A pair of Metro Detroit’s best prep football players on the defensive side of the ball committed to colleges across the state-line. It started with St. Claire Shores South Lake outside linebacker Jalen Dingle committing to Bowling Green at the beginning of the week and concluded with Detroit Cass Tech inside linebacker Will White committing to Toledo Friday. They are both considered one of the top players in the state at their position for the Class...Full Story

The Western Michigan athletic program welcomed three new intriguing faces into the family this week, two for football and one for basketball. On the gridiron side of things, juniors Chance Stewart (Sturgis) and Lucas Bezerra (Troy Athens) committed to the Broncos and first-year head coach P.J. Fleck, while on the hardwood senior Bishop Robinson (Kalamazoo Loy Norrix) accepted a preferred walk-on spot and will stay at home for his college hoops, with a chance to earn a scholarship in the future. Metro Detroit’s pitching prowess on the prep baseball diamond has been on full display in the early part of the season, with a series of ace hurlers from around the area registering dynamite performances toeing the slab recently. Four no-hitters were thrown on Monday alone. Tyler Weed of Livonia Clarenceville spun a no-no, sending seven opposing batters down swinging to lift the Trojans to an 8-0 defeat of Dearborn Fordson. Ortonville Brandon‘s Max Wardell and Holly’s Joel Perry each tossed no-no’s as their respe...Full Story
