The wrestling season is just over a month old and things are already shaking out as the postseason push nears.

This past Sunday eight high-quality programs made their way to Central Michigan University, in a pre-state championship run at the new home of the Michigan High School Athletic Association Team Finals.

Detroit Catholic Central and Richmond came out unscathed, and made strong pushes up the State Champ Sports Top 20 rankings.

Here are the first 2016 State Champ Sports wrestling top 20 Power Rankings.

1. Detroit Catholic Central -- With two big wins over Hartland and Grandville on Sunday at CMU, the Shamrocks make a move to the top of the rankings.

2. Hartland -- This team has had impressive showings in both Ohio and Michigan this season, but had a tough match against C.C. on Sunday.

3. Lowell -- A tough call putting a very talented Red Arrows team here but Hartland and Lowell have a common Ohio opponent in Mechanicsburg High School, and Hartland won and Lowell lost.

4. Davison -- OK, so Davison did beat C.C. earlier this year, by a decisive margin, but a loss to Hartland at CMU on Sunday has to put the Cardinals here.

5. St. Johns -- Are the Redwings strong enough to take back the Division 2 title from Lowell? Maybe not, but they are good enough to be ranked this high.

6. Dundee -- This team is loaded, led by super sophomore Brandon Whitman, and looks to be the early favorite in Division 3.

7. Lake Fenton -- This team is already good, and will be getting some transfers eligible this week, making a good team one to be reckon with when the postseason begins next month.

8. Richmond -- Division 3 looks to be a three team race with the two teams previously mentioned and Richmond. The defending champs looked good at CMU with wins over Hudson and New Lothrop.

9. Goodrich -- A state-championship program, Goodrich has been missing from the rankings in the past couple of years, comes back with a strong team this year.

10. Brighton -- The defending Division 1 state champions lost some talented wrestlers off last year's squad, but are still very good this year, led by senior big man Luke Ready.

11. Remus Chippewa Hills -- Like Richmond, Chippewa Hills also beat Hudson and New Lothrop at CMU.

12. Grandville -- A tough weekend for the Bulldogs, but this team has talent, and is definitely the best Division 1 team on the west side of the state.

13. New Lothrop -- The defending Division 4 champs have another very good team, and should be the favorites moving forward in a down year in the division.

14. Eaton Rapids -- Last year's surprise team in the Division 2 team tournament, the Greyhounds are solid again this season but are they good enough to beat St. Johns again in the tournament?

15. DeWitt -- Beat Grandville at the Gary Rivers Memorial Tournament at Lowell on Saturday, then fell hard to the Red Arrows in the finals. But this team is still good.

16. Hudson -- Does coach Scott Marry have his team in a right place to beat New Lothrop this year in the Division 4 finals? It’s difficult hard to tell. But you can be sure Hudson will be tested as the Tigers hosted their own rugged tournament on Saturday then wrestled at CMU.

17. Oxford -- A usual fixture at the Division 1 finals, Oxford is good, but does not have the talent to deal with the top teams in the division.

18. Gaylord -- Led by junior state champion Dom LaJoie, Gaylord has been moving up the power and Division 2 rankings all season.

19. Niles – Niles is a very deep team that has had some impressive wins early this season.

20. Sparta -- Led by the Rees brothers, Joel and Alec, this team has five highly ranked wrestlers in their respective weight classes, making the Spartans a tough out in the state tournament.
