Detroit – State Champs has learned that former high school coach and NBA player Jermaine Jackson has been hired as a men’s assistant basketball coach at the University of Detroit, his alma mater.

Jackson was out of coaching last season and was the head coach of the boys basketball program at Mount Clemens. He guided the Bathers to the Class C quarterfinals in 2014. Some reports had Jackson being fired by school administrators following that season. Jackson denied he was fired saying he resigned instead.

Jackson was an all-state player at Detroit Finney before going on to lead the Titans to consecutive NCAA tournament appearances (1998-99). He was maned Midwestern Collegiate Conference player of the year before enjoying a career in the NBA, mostly with the Detroit Pistons.

His son, Jermaine Jackson, Jr., will be a junior at Macomb Dakota in the fall and he has been offered a scholarship by a number of Division I schools including Detroit.
