Stuursma leaving East Grand Rapids after 16 years; accepts head coaching position at Hope College

After 16 years and seven Division 3 state championships at East Grand Rapids, Peter Stuursma is moving on to the college level.

Stuursma will be returning to his alma mater, Hope College, where he graduated from in 1993, as the next head football coach.

Stuursma helped lead East Grand Rapids to five straight state championships from 2006-2010.

In his third year as head coach at East Grand Rapids in 2002, Stuursma won his first state championship as head coach of the Pioneers, leading East Grand Rapids to its first title since 1995. He would win his second title in 2003.

Before East Grand Rapids, Stuursma was head coach at Forest Hills Central for three seasons.

Stuursma also served as the Principal at East Grand Rapids Middle School for 11 years.

Now the new head coach of the Flying Dutchmen, Stuursma will be taking over for Dean Kreps, who was the head coach at Hope for the past 21 seasons before stepping down after a 2-8 record in 2015.

Hope College will open the 2016 football season on September 3rd at Monmouth, Illinois.
