Stevenson reaches final against with 5-1 win over Hartland

Plymouth - Livonia Stevenson didn’t waste its opportunity to head back to USA Hockey Arena, and the Division 2 finals.

The Spartans topped Hartland, 5-1, on Thursday USA Hockey Arena to reach the final for the second consecutive season.

Last season Stevenson lost to Birmingham Brother Rice, 6-3, in the final.

“We were just more opportunistic tonight,” Stevenson coach Dave Mitchell said. “We got a couple early goals that calmed us down, and showed our team that we can score on (Hartland).”

“Getting back here for a second consecutive year is not easy,” Stevenson goaltender Cullen Barber added. “Coming back is always a goal every year, but this year in particular was important. Last year we felt like we had a lot left in the tank, and we wanted an opportunity to get back and play for a championship.”

The Spartans (21-6-1) could have come out tight as Steve
