Farmington – The future is unfolding at a rapid pace for Maddy Trevisan of Farmington.

Athletically, she’s set a personal best in the 3,200-meter run (10:27) this season and is looking to improve upon her fifth-place finish at last season’s Division 1 track and field finals when she, hopefully, qualifies at this season’s regionals (May 21 at North Farmington). This year’s Division 1 finals are June 4 at Hudsonville.

Her success in track is in addition to her fine cross country season where Trevisan placed third with a time of 17:31 last November. She was subsequently named Miss Cross Country in recognition of her recording the fastest time for a senior.

Academically, Trevisan is even more impressive. She carries a 4.0 grade-point average having not received a grade lower than an ‘A’ in her four years. She scored a 32 on the ACT and has signed with Michigan to run cross country and track.

Trevisan is on track to enter U-M’s engineering program and, further down the road, has aspirations of designing prosthetics.

“It’s wide open,” Trevisan said. “I’ve always been a math and science person. I might get into mechanical engineering and maybe go to grad school. We’ll see.”

She said she’ll likely compete in the 5K at U-M before, perhaps, leaping to the 10K.

In the present she’s just enjoying her final year of high school, finishing her final few exams and then there’s Monday’s event at the Detroit Athletic Club. Trevisan is one of six finalists for the DAC High School Female Athlete of the Year Award. The winners (male and female) will be announced on Monday evening at the DAC.

“It’s an extreme honor,” Trevisan said. “After being interviewed, I really got more background on the history of the award. And I got to learn so much about the other candidates and how driven they are.”

State Champs host Lorne Plant is the master of ceremonies and State Champs will broadcast a half hour show on the event to be aired on Fox Sports May 14 at 12:30 p.m.
