Cass Tech continues their undefeated streak by shutting out Detroit Renaissance for 44-0 win

With both Cass Tech and Rennaissance earning victories in their PSL openers last week, Renaissance was looking to pull an upset against the State Division 1 Champs tonight, while Cass Tech was focused on staying undefeated after last week's impressive last week's 57-0 romp over Northwestern.

Advantage Cass Tech.

Led by sophomore quarterback Jayru Campbell, Cass Tech ran all over the Renaissance defense, shutting out Renaissance 44-0 to move to 3-0. Cass Tech started early, when running back Gary Hosey rushed one ine from 12 yards to cap a three play drive, giving  Cass Tech a 7-0 lead. With less than seven minutes left in the first quarter, Renaissance quarterback James Speight threw an interception to defensive tackle Dennis Finley. After the interception, Cass Tech quarterback Jayru Campbell connected with wide receiver Daquan Pace for a 53 yard touchdown pass, giving Cass Tech a 14-0 lead.

With four minutes left in the first quarter Cass Tech put together another scoring drive capped by a 22 yard touchdown pass from Jayru Campbell to wide receiver Jourdan Lewis. With Cass Tech kicker Ken Snapp out the game with an injury that he sustained earlier in the game, Cass Tech decided to go for a two point conversion after the Lewis touchdown, giving Cass Tech a 22-0 lead. And they never looked back.

Campbell again struck through the air, this time connecting with wide receiver Damon Webb for a 27 yard touchdown to finish out the first, however they weren’t able to convert an attempted two point conversion.  Rennaissance simply could not build momentum in this one. With 10:56 left in the second quarter, Daquan Pace was able to pick off Renaissance quarterback James Speight and return the interception for a 37 yard touchdown. After converting the two point conversion, Cass Tech entered halftime with a 36-0 lead.

Following a third quarter where neither team scored despite the turnovers, Renaissance running back Jalen Tilman fumbled the ball with 8 minutes left in the fourth and Cass Tech free safety Erron Enoex recovered the ball for Cass Tech. The Technicians didn’t waste any time capitalizing off the turnover as Cass Tech quarterback Jayru Campbell connected with wide receiver Jourdan Lewis for a 23 yard touchdown. After converting the two point conversion, Cass Tech increased their lead to 44-0. Renaissance again tried to get some points on the board with two minutes left  but Renaissance quarterback James Speight was again picked off, this time by defensive back Jourdan Lewis. Cass Tech's defense making the final statement in this one, 44-0.
