Belf of Seaholm and Fisher of Grand Blanc named athletes of the year by the DAC

Detroit – Distance runners Audrey Belf of Birmingham Seaholm and Grant Fisher of Grand Blanc have named recipients of the Detroit Athletic Club’s female and male high school athlete of the year honors.

The announcements were made on Monday during ceremonies at the DAC.

The selection committee received over 100 applicants for the awards and the field was narrowed to six in each category before the winners were selected.

Belf competes in the mile and two-mile runs in track and field, and she won the Division 1 individual cross country title each of the past two seasons. She will attend Georgetown in the fall.

Like Belf, Fisher won each of the last two cross country individual titles in Division 1 each of the last two seasons and he also won the last two Foot Locker national cross country championships held in San Diego. Fisher will attend Stanford.

Belf and Fisher both have a grade-point average that exceed 4.0.

The other finalists were, in the female category, Liza Elder of East Grand Rapids, Taylor Garcia of Holland, Cierra Rice of Grosse Pointe South, Alex Sobczak of Farmington Hills Mercy and Sarah White of East Kentwood. The other five finalists in male category were Myles Amine of Detroit Catholic Central, Nick Azar of Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett, Jackson Hartje of Detroit Country Day, Logan Massa of St. Johns and Tim Wang of Novi.
