Detroit - ML King Senior pitcher Terrell Walker was at his very best Friday afternoon against Detroit Cass Tech. The rival schools faced off at Manz Field in the final regular season games before the PSL playoffs begin next week. Walker pitched a complete game, throwing 107 pitches and striking out 16 batters in route to a 6-3 vicory in game one of a doubleheader.

Walker, who himself was hitless in the game, kept Cass Tech underwraps all day, and received plenty of help from the bats of his teammates. After going up 1-0 early in the game after one inning, King loaded the bases in the bottom of the second inning with an opportunity to increase their lead. Outfielder Demetrius Hicks smacked a 2 RBI single into centerfield to put his team up 3-0. Avonte Maddox (1-3, 2 SB, RBI) would then add another run the very next at-bat with an RBI double to go up 4-0.

Down by four runs, Cass Tech finally got on the board in the top of the 5th when Walker walked shortstop Ken Snapp with the bases loaded. They stranded three batters in the inning, however, as Walker was able to get the last out to maintain a 5-1 lead. Cass Tech would attempt to rally in the final inning, when catcher, and Indiana Tech commit David Barksdale (2-3, 2B) led the inning off with a double. He would score two batters later to make the score 6-2 with one out. The Technicians would add another run with two outs to come within three at 6-3, but would come up just short as Walker recorded his 16 strikeout for the game's final out.

In the second game of the series, Cass Tech would extract revenge on King with a 4-3 win to split the series. Both teams have qualified for the PSL playoffs next week, in hopes of playing at Comerica Park for a city title.
