On Monday morning, Detroit East English Village Prep 2016 shooting guard Kamari Newman announced that he has committed to George Mason on twitter.

“Blessed to say that I’ve committed to George Mason University,” tweeted Newman.

Newman is considered one of the best shooters in the state of Michigan and averaged over 23 points per game to go along with six rebounds and four assists per contest last season for the Bulldogs.

As a junior last season, Newman had several big performances for East English Village, including a 38 point game against Southfield and a 33 point, 14 rebound effort against River Rouge.

Newman helped lead the Bulldogs to a 16-5 record last season.

The 6-foot-4 Newman chose George Mason over offers from the University of Detroit Mercy, Cleveland State, Eastern Michigan, Buffalo and Kent State as well as a handful of other offers.

Last season, George Mason finished with a 9-22 record.
