Cass Tech's Donovan Johnson chooses Penn State over Virginia TechFootball  |
On Tuesday night, Detroit Cass Tech’s Donovan Johnson became the latest high profile recruit from the state of Michigan to announce his college decision, committing to Penn State.
The decision comes after Johnson reportedly narrowed his options to just two, Virginia Tech and Penn State and Johnson took an official visit to Happy Valley over the past weekend. Johnson chooses the Nittany Lions over offers from 13 other Division 1 schools, including offers from Oregon, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Nebraska and Virginia Tech.
While he is regarded as a 4-star cornerback according to Rivals.com, Johnson has proven throughout his high school career that he is more than capable of being a difference maker on offense, where he lined up as a running back for the Technicians.
Johnson is a lightning-fast, quick and instinctive player and was a lockdown cornerback throughout his time at Cass Tech and will continue to wreak havoc on opposing Big Ten wide receivers throughout his collegiate career. Don’t be surprised to see Johnson contribute immediately when he arrives on campus in Happy Valley, whether it’s playing in the secondary or on special teams as a return specialist.
Johnson’s commitment is the first of two high profile commitments for Cass Tech this week as Donovan Peoples-Jones is expected to announce his commitment on Thursday night.Tweet
