Who Should be the Favorite to win the 2017 HS Softball Player of the Year Award?Softball  |
With the 2016 Total Softball Michigan High School Softball Player of the Year Award officially wrapped up as Farmington Hills Mercy’s Abby Krzywiecki was named this year’s winner on Tuesday, it’s now time to look ahead to next year and see who could be the favorite for the award in 2017.
There will be several top notch candidates for next year’s award, including Caledonia’s Sammie Gehrls, Plymouth Salem’s Morgan Overaitis, Macomb Dakota’s Kendahl Dunford, Plymouth’s Jenny Bresser and Mount Pleasant’s Hannah Carson.
But the leader in the clubhouse going into next season has to be St. Mary Catholic Central’s Meghan Beaubien, who has proven to be one of the state’s most dominant players since she began her high school career.
In 2016, Beaubien has compiled a 21-1 record entering Friday’s Division 3 semifinal against Gladstone and also had a staggering .37 ERA with 308 strikeouts after the district final two weeks ago.
Beaubien already won the Michigan Gatorade Player of the Year as a sophomore last year and the junior ace was a finalist for the Gatorade National Player of the Year.
Last season, in the MHSAA State semifinals, Beaubien twirled a no-hitter against Pinconning as the Kestrels went on to win the Division 3 state championship and now MSMCC is just two wins from a second straight state title with Beaubien leading the way.
