With the playoffs beginning next week and several currently sitting on the bubble hoping to make the playoffs, here are five 4-4 teams who could qualify for the MHSAA Playoffs with a win and have an opportunity to make a run.

West Bloomfield – The Lakers would like be in the playoffs if they didn’t have to forfeit their season opening win against Groves, but instead, West Bloomfield is looking at needing to win in week nine just to have a shot at getting into the playoffs. The Lakers should pick up a win in week nine and if they can sneak into the playoffs, the Lakers will be in a position to make a run in the Division 1 playoffs.

Southfield A&T – The Warriors will have a tough matchup this week against Oak Park, who has already qualified for the playoffs, but if Southfield A&T can win and get into the postseason at 5-4, they can make some noise. Quarterback Sam Johnson has missed time recently due to injury, but should be ready to go for the playoffs and if the Warriors have their quarterback healthy and ready to go, they could make some noise in the playoffs.

East Kentwood – The 4-4 record for the Falcons is a product of their tough schedule, with losses coming at the hands of Hudsonville, Grandville, Forest Hills Northern and Rockford last week, but East Kentwood should get past Caledonia on Friday and sneak into the postseason. If they get in, the Falcons will be one of the more battle tested teams in the playoffs.

Grand Blanc – The Bobcats have struggled in recent weeks as they’ve lost each of their previous four games. However, Grand Blanc tops Waterford Kettering this Friday and the Bobcats get into the playoffs, they still have plenty of talent across the board to be able to surprise some teams in the postseason.

Marine City – A tough Week 9 matchup against Grosse Point North awaits for the Mariners, but after starting the season 0-4, Marine City has rattled off four straight wins to even their record at 4-4 and giving itself a chance to sneak into the playoffs. If they get in, don’t be surprised to see the Mariners make some noise and potentially make a run.

Also: Keep an eye on Orchard Lake St. Mary’s. If the Eaglets lose in Saturday’s prep bowl, they will drop to 5-4 on the season and should still make the postseason. Regardless of record, St. Mary’s will be one of the favorites to win the Division 3 state championship.
