The Drive For Five - 5 X-Factors for Saturday's Football SemifinalsFootball  |
With teams looking to advance to the Football Finals at Ford Field next weekend, these are five players that could have big games to lead their teams to wins this weekend.
- Ryan Stevens – Lowell QB
Walled Lake Western’s run defense has proven to be top notch during its postseason run, and if it proves to once again be a factor on Saturday, the Red Arrows will have to rely on Stevens to get the job done through the air in possibly tough weather conditions.
- Cody White – Walled Lake Western WR/DB
Without starting safety Darnell Lanier, who is suspended for Saturday’s semifinal because of a questionable call, White and the Western secondary will be asked to do more to slow down the Lowell passing attack that features Stevens and speedy wide receiver, Gabe Steed.
- Tim Cheatham – Detroit Cass Tech RB
The Technicians will be without starting quarterback Rodney Hall, so that will likely mean that the Cass Tech offense will rely heavily on Cheatham and its rushing attack. Cass Tech will need a big time performance from Cheatham if the Technicians are going to advance to the Division 1 final.
- Paul Hurley – Romeo QB
The Romeo defense stole the show for much of the season for the Bulldogs, and rightfully so. But Hurley and the offense have continued to be impressive throughout the playoff run and look for Hurley to step up once again for the Bulldogs against Grand Ledge on Saturday.
- Jared Stephens – Canton RB
Markus Sanders has been the go-to running back out of the Canton backfield, totaling over 2,200 yards so far this season. But Stephens, more of a power-runner, stepped up in a big way in an upset win over Saline in the regional final and could be asked to step up again on Saturday against a physical Cass Tech defense.
