The Mike Weber era at Ohio State could be starting this fall.

The former Detroit Cass Tech star running back spent last year playing behind eventual Top 5 draft pick Ezekiel Elliot, but now, with the news of Ohio State dismissing Bri’onte Dunn last week, Weber is now considered to be the frontrunner to be the starting running back in Columbus for the 2016 season.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise for any of us who saw Weber dominate the prep football scene in Michigan.

Weber was a Mr. Football Award finalist in 2014, where he rushed for 2,268 yards and 29 touchdowns, including averaging 10.1 yards per carry. Weber decided to commit to Ohio State over Michigan on National Signing Day in 2015.

While playing on the Cass Tech team that won back-to-back Division 1 state championships in 2011 and 2012, Weber was considered as one of the top college prospects in the state of Michigan as he received offers from Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, along with offers from Michigan and Michigan State.
