A year ago, Notre Dame recruited the state of Michigan well, earning commitments from three players, Walled Lake Central 3-star defensive end Ade Ogundeji, Ann Arbor Skyline 5-star linebacker Daelin Hayes and Farmington Hills Harrison 4-star defensive end Khalid Kareem.

Now, Kareem’s former teammate with the Hawks, 4-star linebacker Ovie Oghoufo will be joining Kareem in South Bend next year.

Earlier today, Oghoufo, who is regarded as the No. 5 player in the state of Michigan, announced his commitment on his Twitter account.

“First of all, I would like to thank God for this extraordinary blessing! Secondly, I would like to thank my family for supporting me from the start! Lastly, I would like to thank all the schools that took time in recruiting me and giving me an opportunity to reach my goals academically and athletically.” Oghoufo wrote on Twitter. “At this time, I would like to end my recruiting process and announce my full commitment to the University of Notre Dame.”

Last season, Oghoufo recorded 66 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and eight sacks for Harrison and could also see some additional time on the offensive side of the ball in his senior season this fall.

Notre Dame has had plenty of success recruiting the state of Michigan in recent years and with Oghoufo being the first player in the class of 2017 to commit to the fighting Irish, more of the state’s top football players could make their way to South Bend as well.
