Some news & notes from the state’s football recruiting world

Southfield-Lathrup senior defensive end Eyioma Uwazurike recently committed to the University of Toledo. This kid is rough, rugged and raw on the gridiron and is upside at the next level resides on the moon. He was a major reason why the Lathrup Chargers sent their program off in style with their first playoff appearance in eight years, closing the curtain on the school’s pigskin program with a bang (Lathrup merges with Southfield in 2016)

The University of Notre Dame hosted arguably the most sought-after recruit in the state, Ann Arbor Skyline senior Daelin Hayes (LB-RB), the former USC-commit. The Fighting Irish will host East Kentwood junior offensive lineman Turner Ruby in South Bend this weekend.

Following Hayes’ trip across the border to Indiana, he told Scout.com’s Allen Trieu ND was now in his Top 3 choices alongside Michigan State and Ohio State. Michigan-commit David Reese (Farmington LB-RB) and Louisville-commit Dez Fitzpatrick (Waterford Mott WR) told Trieu that their visit to Nebraska “raised their eyebrows.” Reese and Fitzpatrick were teammaes at Farmington in 2013 and 2014.

St. Joseph’s 4-star defensive end Corey Malone Hatcher visited Alabama over the weekend, while Zeeland East 3-star defensive end Jonathan Berghorst traveled west to the Windy City and visited Northwestern

Ann Arbor Pioneer junior linebacker Antjuan Simmons is one of the hottest prospects in the state right now. He’s fast, fearless and smart sideline to sideline and recently picked up offers from the University of Michigan of the Big 10 and the University of Georgia of the ever-coveted SEC. Don’t sleep on Simmons’ running buddy in the Pioneer linebacking corps, Derrick Hubbard, either. He’s a very naturally gifted and intriguing prospect himself.

In recruiting news out of the PSL, Detroit Cass Tech junior safety Jaylin Kelly-Powell brought home a PAC-12 offer from UCLA last week and Detroit King junior wide receiver Ambry Thomas garnered a Notre Dame offer continuing the parade of prestigious bids for the breakout stud lining up opposite his 4-star split end teammate Donnie Corley.
