The Drive For Five – Top 5 Mr. Football Award Power Rankings

Please Note: These rankings do not represent or affect the current Mr. Football Award Race. These rankings are only my opinion.

1. Cody White – Walled Lake Western

Has anyone been more important to their team through the first two weeks of the football season than White? One of the top wide receivers in the state filling in at quarterback and has led the Warriors to a 3-0 start.

2. Donovan Peoples-Jones – Detroit Cass Tech

Still the most talented player in Michigan, Peoples-Jones hasn’t been able to put up big time numbers in the past two weeks because the Technicians haven’t needed their star receiver for the full games as Cass Tech has won those games by a combined 117-0. But make no mistake, Peoples-Jones will still finish the 2016 season with some ridiculous stats.

3. Kalil Pimpleton – Muskegon

Pimpleton is about as valuable as it gets. Capable of making big plays and key contributions all over the field, whether he’s throwing the ball, running it or catching it. Also a dangerous return man on special teams, Pimpleton is at the top of these rankings because of how versatile he is and able to score from just about any position.

4. Hamze Elzayat – Dearborn Fordson

After a breakout performance in the season opener, Elzayat hasn’t slowed down, leading the Tractors to a 3-0 start on the season. Through just three weeks of the season, Elzayat has proven to be as dangerous as it gets running the ball, but is also capable of hurting defenses with his arm as well.

5. Ambry Thomas – Detroit King

A dangerous player on both sides of the ball at wide receiver and at defensive back, Thomas, much like former teammate and 2015 Mr. Football Donnie Corley can hurt opposing teams in a number of ways. The start of Thomas’ season has been similar to Peoples-Jones’ as King has steamrolled its last two opponents, leading to Thomas playing less in games.
