Southfield-Lathrup  | Guard - 5'10"

A tough, physical guard, Church is excellent at attacking the basket. Her perimeter shot is much improved over last season. Church had 23 points and eight rebounds in a 60-40 victory over Detroit Renaissance in a district semifinal. She’s averaging 17 points and six rebounds for a team that will play for a Class A district title against Southfield on Friday.

Warren Cousino  | Guard/Forward - 5'9"

Fletcher excels at getting to the basket. Long tough defender, Fletcher has the ability to dominate a game without shooting a jump shot. Fletcher had 18 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and six steals in a 49-28 victory over Warren Regina in a district semifinal. She’s is averaging 25 points and 10 rebounds for a team that will play for a Class A district title against Warren Mott on Friday. 

Claire Hendrickson

Wyoming  | Guard - 5'11"

Hendrickson is the only player on this list to commit to a university. She committed to Michigan State before the season. Hendrickson has a 4.0 grade-point average and her best on-court skill is her court vision. Hendrickson suffered a season-ending knee injury in January.

Detroit Country Day  | Forward - 6'0"

One of the best shooters in the state. Pitts can shoot the three-pointer and has an excellent pull up off the dribble. Pitts had 12 points, six assists and five rebounds in a 67-13 victory over Warren Michigan Collegiate in a Class B district semifinal Pitts is averaging 16 points and nine rebounds for a team that will play Madison Heights Lamphere in a district final on Saturday.

Flint Hamady  | Guard/Forward - 5'9"

Rice is a versatile player who has tremendous defensive skills and is accurate from the 3-point range. She had 11 points and six rebounds in a 56--44 victory over Burton Bendle in a Class C district semifinal. Rice is averaging 12.6 points and nine rebounds for a team that will play Flint Beecher in a district final on Friday. Illinois and Michigan State have offered Rice a scholarship. 

Jamal Cain

Detroit Cornerstone  | Forward - 6'7"

For the most part Cain plays on the perimeter offensively. On defense he can block shots as well as defend the wing. Cain averaged 25.5 points and 15 rebounds. In the first round of the Class C tournament Cain had 13 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and two steals in an 85-48 victory over Ferndale University. Cornerstone (11-10) was eliminated by Flint Beecher, 62-55, in a region semifinal.

U-D Jesuit  | Center/Forward, 6'9"

No one knows the upside with Eke. He’s improved so much from his sophomore to junior season that he could well challenge Tillman for the award. It’s worth just to watch this gifted athlete block shots and dunk. Eke is averaging nine points, nine rebounds and four blocks for a team that finished the regular season ranked No. 1 overall. In the first round of the districts, Eke had 14 points and six rebounds in a 74-53 victory over Southfield. U-D (25-0) will play Ypsilanti in a quarterfinal on Tuesday.

Detroit East English Village Prep  | Wing, 6'3"

Elliott plays like a young Edmund Sumner (Detroit Country Day, Xavier). He has great court sense and awareness. Elliott rebounds like a player who’s three inches taller. He handles the ball well and can also play inside. Elliott averaged 18 points, nine rebounds and four assists. He had 17 points in East English 86-62 victory over Detroit Renaissance in the PSL final. In the first round of the Class A districts, Elliott had 16 points, six rebounds, six steals and three assists in a 72-37 victory over Hamtramck. Elliott had 14 points and 11 rebounds as East English was eliminated by Detroit Western, 77-76, in a district semifinal. 

Jermaine Jackson

Macomb Dakota  | Guard, 5'9"

Perhaps a tad undersized, Jackson more than makes up for his lack of height with astounding quickness and knowledge of the game. Jackson could be the sleeper in this group to win Mr. Basketball. He’s averaging 21 points, five assists, five rebounds and three steals for a team that finished the regular season ranked No. 2 in Class A. He’s shooting 52 percent from the field and 85 percent from the free throw line. Jackson had 12 points, eight assists and six steals in Dakota’s 66-31 victory over Port Huron Northern in the first round of the districts. Dakota (25-0) reached the quarterfinals and will play Midland.

Xavier Tillman

Grand Rapids Christian  | Forward, 6'8"

The leading candidate for the Mr. Basketball award, Tillman was ranked No. 3 in State Champs preseason top 25 in December. Tillman is strong with the ball and agile enough without it to get himself open. Tillman is averaging 15.2 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.6 blocks and 2.6 steals for a team that finished the regular season ranked No. 3 in Class A. In the first round of the district Tillman had 13 points, 15 rebounds and seven assists in a 73-41 victory over Byron Center. And Tillman did not play in the fourth quarter. Christian (22-2) lost to Muskegon, 64-53, in a region semifinal.
