Thanks to everyone for votin in the Michigan High School Softball Player of the Year contest,  this was a TERRIFIC group of contestants - as players and individuals - who all had great seasons this year.!

Nikki Bauer

Unionville-Sebewaing  | Senior - Pitcher/1B

A four-year starter, Bauer led USA to the Division 4 title last season. Her fastball tops out at 65 mph and she also throws a drop, change-up and a riser. In the 5-0 victory over Kalamazoo Christian in the state final Bauer allowed one hit, no walks and struck out 11. She has good power at the plate and batted .360 last season. Bauer signed with Stanford. “Nikki has been outstanding all four years,” coach Steve Bohn said. “She lost four games in her first three years but because she is who she is, I intentionally scheduled better competition this year. She beat the No. 1-ranked team (Macomb Dakota) in Division 1.” Through district play Bauer is 20-7 with a 0.33 ERA. In 141 innings Bauer has 188 strikeouts and walked 11. She has eight shutouts and three no-hitters. At the plate Bauer is batting .510 and has an on-base percentage of .590.

Monroe St. Mary Catholic Central  | Junior - Pitcher/1B

A lefty, Beaubien is an honors student who committed to Michigan as a freshman. Coach John Morningstar said what he likes about Beaubien is her strength emotionally, mentally and physically. “She understands her responsibilities,” he said. “She recovers well when she throws a bad pitch.” Through 27 games Beaubien is batting .482 (41-85) with seven doubles, three triples, two home runs, 14 walks and 30 runs scored. On the mound she’s 20-1 with a 0.37 ERA. Beaubien has struck out 308 and walked 15 in 150 innings. She was named Gatorade Player of the Year in 2015 and 2016.

Farmington Hills Mercy  | Senior - Pitcher/1B/3B

Krzywiecki was one of the state’s top players last season when she batted .547 with 12 homeruns. First base is her main position but Krzywiecki will occasionally pitch. Through the districts this season she has a 51-5 career record and 47 career home runs (49 is the state record). Krzywiecki signed with South Alabama. “My expectations were high this season,” coach Alec Lesko said. “But she’s exceeded them. She’s made every kid on this team feel special and I have 18 players. She’s off the charts with her career numbers.” Through 40 games this season Krzywiecki is batting .549 (73-133) with 15 doubles, 19 home runs (state record), 53 runs scored and 87 RBI. She’s 12-1 on the mound with a 1.69 ERA. She’s struck out 81 in 91 1/3 innings.

Clarkston  | Senior - Catcher

Skvarce bats cleanup and hit .450 last season as the Wolves reached the Division 1 quarterfinals. She has a quick release and is adept at picking off base runners. She signed with Michigan. This season stepped to the plate as the leader whether it was defensively or on the bench. “I thought she’d have a real good season,” coach Don Peters said. “But she exceeded my expectations. She was just as good defensively as she was offensively. She’s very athletic. I could have played her anywhere.” Clarkston won 29 games this season and Skvarce batted .612 (82-134) and had a .993 slugging percentage. She had 21 doubles, three triples, eight home runs, 54 runs and 62 RBI. Her hit total is a school record and she struck out just seven times.
