They’ve got brains and brawn. The complete package — a scary combination on the gridiron.

Two of the IHSAA’s smartest football players made college connections in the past week as New Palestine senior safety Maxen Hook committed to Toledo and West Lafayette senior wide receiver Harrison Truitt committed to Miami (OH). These two game-changing talents outthink the competition as much as they out-grind it. Both are savvy pigskin prowlers and technicians at their craft who helped guide their high school squads to state championships in 2018 as juniors. Each chose the Mid-American Conference for college over multiple offers from the Ivy and Patriot League in addition to the American service academies.

Hook (6-foot-2, 180 pounds) racked up 126 tackles and snared four picks for New Palestine in the Dragons run to an undefeated season and state crown in 5A last fall. Truitt (6-foot-4, 210 pounds) made 47 grabs for 850 yards and nine touchdowns last year on West Lafayette’s 3A title team.

What they have to OFFER

South Bend Riley junior defensive end Tyson Lee and Fort Wayne Northside junior dual-threat quarterback Duce Taylor have both picked up their first DI offers from Western Michigan and Akon, respectively.

New Palestine senior defensive end Kyle King collected offers from Michigan State and Purdue last week.

Indianapolis Brebeuf Jesuit senior linebacker Jay Higgins just locked down his first Big Ten offer from Iowa.
